The best beaches in Fuengirola: complete guide to choose yours

The best beaches in Fuengirola: a complete guide to finding yours

Fuengirola has 8 kilometres of continuous beach along the Mediterranean, with warm water for almost nine months of the year. But not all its beaches are the same — and choosing well makes the difference between a perfect beach day and one that doesn't quite deliver.

When to go?

The official beach season runs from June to September, but May and October are the months that those who know Fuengirola well prefer: the water is warm, the beaches aren't overcrowded and prices are lower.

The beaches, from west to east

Santa Amalia Beach — The quietest beach in the municipality. Residential atmosphere, gentle waves and far fewer people than the centre.

Los Boliches Beach — The beach of Fuengirola's most authentic neighbourhood. Wide, with great chiringuitos and a mix of tourists and long-time locals.

Fuengirola Beach (centre) — The great urban beach. Over 3 kilometres with every service: showers, sun loungers, surf schools and beach bars. The most complete — and the most crowded.

El Ejido Beach — At the eastern end, just before Benalmádena. A younger crowd, perfect for combining a day at the beach with a night out.

What to eat at the beach

Espetos de sardinas — The most iconic dish on the Costa del Sol. Sardines skewered on canes and grilled over wood embers right on the shore.

Fritura malagueña — Anchovies, prawns, squid and cuttlefish, battered and fried. Hearty and very typical.

Ajoblanco malagueño — White almond gazpacho with grapes or melon. One of the most surprising and refreshing dishes in Andalusian cuisine. If you haven't tried it, do.

Beyond Fuengirola: beach day trips

Maro Coves, Nerja (~50 min) — Crystal-clear water surrounded by cliffs. Among the most beautiful on the entire Málaga coast.

Torrox Costa (~40 min) — One of the sunniest microclimates in Europe. Sunshine guaranteed.

Marbella and Estepona (~35-50 min) — Calmer sea and some of the best-known beach clubs on the Costa del Sol.
